The American Alpine Journal records the
significant climbing accomplishments of the
world in an annual volume. We encourage climbers
to submit brief (250-500 words), factual
accounts of their climbs and expeditions. While
we welcome submissions in a variety of forms,
contributors are encouraged to follow certain
guidelines when submitting materials. Accounts
should be submitted by e-mail. Alternatively,
submit accounts by regular post both as a hard
copy and on disk; both Mac and PC disks are
acceptable. When submitting an account on disk,
please save it as a text file. Please include
your club affiliation when submitting accounts.
Please submit your report as soon as possible
after your climb. The AAJ is moving to a spring
publication schedule and will depend on timely
submissions by climbers. the new final deadline
for all accounts is December 31 for the
preceding calendar year.
We encourage contributors to submit relevant
photographs; we accept both black-and-white and
color slides and prints. When submitting an
image to show a route line, we ask that you
submit the image along with a photo- or
laser-copy and draw the lines in on the copy.
Alternatively, submit two copies of the same
image (a virgin copy and a copy with the route
line drawn in), or draw the line of the route on
a vellum or similar tracing paper overlay.
Please do not draw directly on the photograph.
Photographic duplicates should be
reproduction quality. Please send all images via
registered mail. The American Alpine Journal is
not responsible for images lost or damaged in
the mail. Topos and maps are also encouraged;
camera-ready original copies are necessary for
quality reproduction.
While we do not pay for accounts or lead
articles, those accounts from which we publish a
photograph will receive a complimentary copy of
the Journal. Authors of lead articles and the
photographer of the cover photo will receive a
one-year complimentary membership to The
American Alpine Club.
