outdoor enthusiasts and even armchair travelers.

Established in 1916, the Henry S. Hall, Jr. American Alpine Club
Library is one of the oldest alpine research
facilities in the United States. The Library is
located in Golden, Colorado with branch
collections in California and Wyoming. This
special collection has over 16,000 books devoted
to mountaineering and rock climbing.
The Henry S. Hall, Jr. American Alpine Club Library is available for research on
any question within the scope of mountaineering
or climbing. The Library has subject strengths
on Mount Everest and the Himalayas, guidebooks,
the Alps, mountaineering history. Also, the
Library has over 200 journals including many
foreign titles, and over 250 videos. In
addition, there is a rare book collection dating
from the 16th century and a Himalayan Library of
approximately 3000 books on the 14 highest
mountains of the world. The Library also houses
the library collection of the Colorado Mountain
Club (CMC).
Members of the American Alpine Club, the
Colorado Mountain Club and Friends of the
American Alpine Club Library have circulation
privileges. The public is welcome to do research
at the library. Fee-based research service is
also offered. One can access the library by
phone or e-mail to place requests. The library
has a staff of three – two librarians and a
paralibrarian.
