The American Alpine Club E-News: July 2003
Dear Members,
The 2003 issues of The American Alpine
Journal and Accidents in North American
Mountaineering are at the printers, and we
anticipate they will be shipped to our mail
house within the next few weeks. If all goes
well, we plan to have them arriving in members'
mail boxes by early August.
Producing and mailing these membership
publications is one of the most expensive things
we do each year. To save cost and keep
membership dues as low as possible, we send both
membership books together and mail them out by
bulk rate. The drawback is that bulk mail
delivery times can vary substantially throughout
the country. There also is the potential that
one of the books, if printed substantially
earlier than the other, may be on sale in local
shops before you receive your copy. So that your
books arrive in the best possible shape, this
year we have upgraded to folded cardboard
packaging. We hope it makes a difference and
cuts down on the number of books that get lost
in the mail due to failed packaging.
Please help us reduce mailing costs,
administrative hassles and delivery times by
ensuring that your address is up to date in our
membership database. If you have moved recently,
please send your current mailing address
information to Jason Manke, our membership
services coordinator, at mailto:jmanke@americanalpineclub.org.
Remember that the Journal and Accidents are
sent to members who are current as of August 1
each year. If your membership has lapsed (or
will lapse in the next few weeks), be sure to
renew your membership. You can do so online at
www.americanalpineclub.org.
Your summer issue of The American Alpine News
will be mailed separately in early July so that
there is no delay in learning about important
Club activities and events.
Happy climbing (and reading)!
